4 Days!

If any of you are in the Halifax, Nova Scotia region of the world over the next two days, be sure to check out the last half of Halifax’s first design ‘unconference’, 4 Days. Put on by Breakhouse (a multi-disciplinary design firm where I just happen to work) and Envision Halifax, it hopes to address design and quality of life (as affected by design) related issues in our city.

Legendary John Thackara headlines the four days of events and has been accompanied so far by such creatives as Uffe Elbaek of Denmark’s Kaos Pilots and Peter MacLeod, President of MASS LBP. The first night, hosted at Breakhouse-designed Carbonstok, took the form of a local-themed Dragon’s Lair.  Last night, Halifax’s first TEDx event was broadcast from one venue to another venue and live-streamed all across the world.

Tonight, we host Halifax’s third Pecha Kucha event.  John Thackara will be presenting in this popular 20 x 20 format along with many awesome locals, including the NSCAD 5, who will divulge their ideas of how to make Halifax better.

Tomorrow, to cap off the last day of the first year, there will be a balcony address from a local housing complex (once home to Sloan, as well as probably half of all Halifax musicians and artists at one time) to celebrate it’s history and mourn it’s upcoming demise. A street party will follow!

Check it out on Facebook and Twitter, too.
